In the City of Los Angeles, LA Sanitation and Environment (LASAN), a city department, collects curbside bins for single-family homes (1 to 4 units): black (trash), blue (recycling), green (organics: yard trimmings plus food waste) and brown (manure, where provided), all weekly. Bins must be at the curb before 6:00 a.m. on collection day and brought back in by 8:00 p.m. To find your collection day, use LASAN's Professor Green assistant (text 'hello LA1' to 213-263-6238) or call 1-800-773-2489. In 2026 only four holidays delay pickup: New Year's, Labor Day, Thanksgiving and Christmas. In those weeks, pickups from the holiday onward move one day later, and Friday's pickup moves to Saturday.
